Sam’s Town (2006)
Influenced by the likes of U2, Bruce Springsteen amd Tom Petty, The Killers’ second installment received mix opinions from different publications. NME had a positive response – “All this, however, isn’t to say that The Killers have gone all (God forbid) serious on us. The tunes may be huger, the influences cleverer, the lyrics more adventurous and the band more self-assured, but their primary concern is still being the biggest indie-pop stars on the planet. For all their smart new ways, The Killers are still as flashy, unintentionally funny, and flagrantly affected as ever – and this time we wouldn’t even pretend to have it any other way.” While publications like Spin Magazine condemned the album a failure saying- “Their defiantly overstuffed follow-up, Sam’s Town, epitomizes Vegas in a more literal sense. The album is named for an off-Strip casino, and it often brings to mind one of the city’s not-so-glamorous institutions: the all-you-can-eat buffet.”
